Types of Evaporator coils
The evaporator coil is usually located in the attic and attached on the side of the furnace. Air flows from the inside of the house through the furnace and the evaporator coil. The coil is connected to the condenser (outside compressor). The condenser compresses the refrigerant back into a liquid then sends the high pressure (hot) liquid to the evaporator coil. The coil expands the liquid refrigerant making it cold. Air flows over the coil and into the house. The expanded refrigerant (now a gas) returns back to the compressor/condenser and the cycle repeats.
