FRIENDSWOOD SCHOOLS CONTINUED

FINE ARTS: The choir and band had 98 students qualify for the State UIL Solo & Ensemble Competition; Women's Choir, Campus Singers, Combined Girls' Chorus, Combined Mens' Choir, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble brought home top honors in concert & sight reading earning them sweepstakes honors, the band placed second in the UIL State Marching Contest. The Wind Ensemble was named the TMEA 4A Honor Band. Four choir students were selected for TMEA All State Choir, and fifteen band students were named TMEA All State Band. The Wranglerettes were named 11th out of 135 teams at MA Nationals, swept their division at the Greater Houston Spectacular at Klein Forest and received winners circle at MA Klein Oak. The dance officers won the top officer awards at Clear Lake, Klein Forest, Klein Oak, and were the MA National Champion officer line. The Illusion Ensemble placed 1st at Nationals, and the Dream Ensemble placed 2nd. The dance team and individuals brought home over 100 awards or medals. The Musical Cast received twelve nominations in the Tommy Tune Awards and received the Best Musical Award, Best Set Design and Best Supporting Actress Award. The UIL One-Act Play placed third at state. The Mustangs are currently in second place for The Lone Star Cup Championship, which combines points earned in UIL athletic, academic and music competition.

 
CAREER TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT: Students advanced to the state level in four different areas. TSA qualified 38 for state and 11 for nationals. HOSA had twenty qualify for state and nine for nationals. DECA had four state qualifiers and BPA had two qualify for state and one for nationals. Our FFA chapter also accrued many awards at district and area as well as the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo showings and are extremely excited to have a barn they can call their own.
 
STUDENT COUNCIL: Completed all requirements for Outstanding Student Council, Pride and Patriotism, Texas Energy and Environment and The Drug, Alcohol, Safety & Health Programs. They also received recognition for the Pennies for Patients supporting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and food collection for the needy during the 2005 holiday season. The FHS Student Council was elected secretary for District Seven for 2006-2007.
 
SUB-VARISTY LEVEL: The Octathlon team finished fourth overall in the region and won Super Quiz competing against 4A and 5A schools. They were named the first among 4A school in the region. The J.V. and freshman athletic teams won district in many areas..
 
CLASS OF 2006: Two National Merit Finalists, twenty-one national Merit Commended students, and two were named National Hispanic Recognition Scholars. To date, the seniors have been offered $4,100,346 in scholarships and they have accepted $2,748,496 in scholarships. Your efforts have given us reason to celebrate with you in the classroom and in the competitive arena. We are proud to say we work with some outstanding young people. The class of 2006 will be remembered for their many accomplishments and the leadership they provided in every area at FHS
